Initial
Design & Redesign Services
Canyon Media's initial design and redesign service is geared towards
startups and existing publications that need a fresh look. Our initial
design service
creates the brand identity of your publication, and
establishes the look and feel of you publication for the
foreseeable future. Our redesign service can create an entirely new
look for your brand, or keep the best parts while providing a fresh
look for the design of you publication.
Canyon Media's initial design and redesign service includes:
- design of the cover and cover logo;
- design of interior
editorial sections, pages or stories in the
publication
(e.g., table of contents, departments, special
departments, features, etc.);
- development of a publication style
(e.g., font usage, repeating type
and graphic elements, color palette, etc.);
- development of file templates (QuarkXpress or
Adobe InDesign file formats)
that can be used to
facilitate efficiency and consistency in ongoing
production; and

Production Design
& Layout Service
Canyon Media's production design & layout service is geared
towards publishers who want to outsource the production design
& layout of their magazine, and for art departments who need an
extra hand designing individual stories. This
service requires existing file templates or style guides that define
the existing design rules and
production specifications of the magazine. This service includes:
- layout/design of each page;
- assignment of photography and/or illustration (i.e.,
identifying
and
contracting with a photographer or artist to create the art);
- researching stock art (searching/identifying
appropriate stock art from online stock agencies);
- preparing images for production (i.e., color
correction, image
manipulation, etc.);
- photo editing (selecting the most appropriate
photos from a photographer's submission;
- placement and advertising art, including an
evaluation
of each ad to ensure files are to spec;
- ad design;
- proofing edits (making changes to copy as requested
by editors);
- creation of high-resolution print production files;
and
- production liaison (working with the client's printer
to ensure the highest quality
production and on-time delivery).

Fees & Quotes
Every project is bid separately to include a total cost for
services. For initial design or redesign quotes, we need to
know
how many unique sections, pages or stories will be involved in the
design—each unique section, page or story requires time for stand alone
design as well as template development. Production design quotes are
based on a per-page fee for internal pages, plus an additional fee for
covers. We offer discounts for multiple issues as well as production
design services that run concurrent with an initial design contract. As
previously mentioned, all design clients receive complimentary
consulting as a value-added service.
